Urinary Tract Infections

UTI called urinary tract infections is any infection in the urinary system of the body. The urinary system is the part of the body that makes urine or pee. It mainly constitutes two kidneys, the ureters, the bladder, and the urethra. The kidneys help facilitate urine by filtering the blood of the extra waste and water. The waste produced thereby called urine travels down from the kidneys to the ureters and stays in the bladder. When the bag of the bladder becomes full, the signal is sent to empty it and the urine passed to the urethra to get rid of waste.

A UTI develops when some bacteria reach the urinary system and multiply. This bacterial growth results in inflammation and pain if not treated on time. These bacteria may even spread to the parts of the urinary system such as kidneys and cause serious conditions such as pyelonephritis.

Who are at the risk of developing UTI?

Anyone can get urinary tract infections, yet the condition is more prevalent in certain people than others.

• Women are more likely to get UTI because of the fact that women have shorter urethra and that makes it easier for the bacteria to travel up to the bladder and the kidneys.
• People with a weak immune system are also more prone to certain urinary infections.
• Those who have diabetes have changed the immune system than others and which accounts for getting UTI among them.
• Any blockage in the urinary tract, such as stone or an enlarged prostate can also block the flow of urine and eventually cause urinary infections.
• In some individuals, a catheter tube is placed in their bladder for a certain time. The bacteria in the catheter can also infect the bladder.

Untreated urinary infections may also become the reason for kidney infection which is a more serious condition that progresses to chronic kidney disease. Thus, it is required that you take timely Ayurveda for UTI and prevent life-threatening situations.

What are the symptoms of a UTI?

The following symptoms may become prominently visible when you develop urinary tract infections.

• The frequent need to urinate but with too little urine
• A strong burning sensation during urination
• Pressure in the lower abdomen
• Blood in the urine
• Odor in the urine
• Cloudy or bubbly urine

If the infection becomes severe and unfurl to the kidneys you may also feel:

• Pain in the lower back
• Fever
• Chills
• Nausea and vomiting

On having one or more signs, it is necessary you consult your ayurvedic specialist, know the exact cause of the UTI, and take appropriate treatment.

Complications:

UTI when not promptly treated can lead to serious comorbidities such as

• Kidney scarring: Leading to chronic kidney disease and eventually kidney failure
• Blood poisoning: Your kidneys filter waste the blood and return filtered blood to the rest of the body. If this process is not carried out properly, this toxin blood reaches the rest of the body and allows the bacteria to unroll every organ.
• Pregnancy related complications: Women who have urinary system infections may have an increased risk of giving birth to low weight babies.

Prevention to Urinary tract infections

With some preventive measures, you can reduce the risk of kidney infection naturally at the comfort of your home. Women particularly need to focus on measures such as:

• Drink more water: Taking or drinking enough fluid can help remove bacteria naturally from the body when you urinate
• Urinate more: Do not avoid or delay urination when you feel the need to do so
• Wipe or clean yourself: Wiping the private parts is necessary to make sure that bacteria do not enter the urethra and spread therefrom
• Avoid the use of feminine products: Spraying deodorant in the genital areas can also give birth to the infections in the urinary tract

Does urinary tract infection always cause kidney damage?

In most cases, mild UTI does not pose a threat to an individual and can be treated without causing kidney damage. UTI, when caused by factors like an enlarged prostate or kidney stone can progress to kidney damage if not averted on time and the infection continues. Besides UTI in adults followed by high fevers may also progress to kidney damage if not treated promptly.
